Rants & Raves

"Megan has been working with my son for two years now. We started when my son began struggling to learn how to read and before we knew he was dyslexic. She has been with us on school conference calls, reviewed evaluation reports, weekly IEP reports, etc., and has offered valuable feedback along the way. Megan makes tutoring so much fun and something that my son looks forward to. I'm so thankful a school mom highly recommended her. She genuinely cares about the success of her students and her positive energy she brings to every session is contagious. My son always comes out with a smile on his face and is excited to tell me what they worked on." -Jennifer
"Miss Megan is such a great tutor, she makes learning such a fun experience while being super helpful. I never thought that I would look forward to being tutored until I found Miss Megan. She makes school and learning such a positive and fun experience for me. She also makes learning so entertaining and exciting and she has helped me so much with my undertanding the material I learn in my classes." -Lily (8th grader)
"Miss Megan is so helpful! Unlike normal tutors, she makes learning so much fun, with different ways to memorize and more to help you remember! I always look forward to her coming. She genuinely makes learning much more exciting. She has the best learning games too! I am so thankful to have her as my tutor!" -Kate (8th grader)
"I am not sure how we got so lucky as to find Megan, but I am consistently grateful that we did. My older kid is slow to warm up and I was nervous how he would initially react to tutoring. Megan is such a miracle worker and the two of them were besties in no time! Both of my kids are always eager to “play” with Megan. Her tutoring style is fun and lighthearted and my kids really enjoy it. She was able to quickly get my second grader back on grade-level reading and he has soared with confidence in third grade! Megan is organized and has excellent communication skills. We just started piano with her as well and both kids love it. I give Megan a 15 out of 10 stars!!!" -Libby
“Megan has been a perfect fit for our family. She a finds a way to make learning exciting for our girls and they look forward to both tutoring and piano, which is amazing for 9 and 7 year olds. She is accommodating, prompt, and professional and has an uncanny ability to relate to kids even when the topics may be frustrating or challenging for them. Both of my girls have shown marked improvement in school and consistently read and practice their math for fun. Megan is a gem and I truly believe she is invested in our kids' education, understanding, and future." -Cara
""Magical Megan," I call her. This woman is....extraordinary. It's like she was BORN to be a teacher/tutor/encourager of children! She tutors my KG and 2nd grader and has been one of the greatest blessings of this whole very hard year! She is Mary Poppins with the children and as smart and professional as she can be! She is so in tune with my girls, very prepared with each session, tailored to their particular needs and personalities. Her communication with me is amazing, and we absolutely love her! 6 stars!! She's also very able to "think outside the box" with you about what is best for your kids/schedule/family.” -Christi
"We cannot thank you enough for her progress in every way!! We know you have done so so much for her and we are more than thankful for your encouragement. This is not an easy year but we found YOU, who made it a blessed and beautiful year! We can't imagine how much she would grow without you but now I think we can send her back to school confidently!! You are such a genuine friend and awesome mentor and more! We adore you!!" -Miya

“You will LOVE working with Megan! I met her when she was teaching. She has such a special way of connecting with the kids and making learning fun that I signed on for some tutoring classes. All of my interactions and my child's interactions with Megan are incredibly positive. We both enjoy talking with her and learning with her. She is amazing!” -Lori
“I just want to say what an amazing teacher Megan is. She was my sons first grade teacher and made such an impact on his second year at school. He had a rough Kindergarten year because of his teacher moving mid year and then getting a very rigid teacher. He ended up not wanting to go to school in KINDERGARTEN!! So when he got Megan I was so ecstatic because we prayed for that. I had heard what a wonderful teacher she was and wonderful isn’t even close to what she is. She’s above and beyond, she’s funny and sets boundaries at the same time, she makes things fun and kids don’t even know they are learning, she is the teacher to go to your child’s game when she feels his spirit is down. She is a woman who is born to teach. This is a gift from above. Anyone who has the blessing of having her as a teacher will forever be grateful. We will for sure miss her and I’m so sad that my youngest will not have the experience of having her as his teacher, but I have to believe that she needs to go to another school and bless others. I can’t say enough positive things about Megan. She’s a true gem of a teacher and person.” -Heather
“Megan taught my daughter during the 2016-2017 school year for first grade. Being an educator myself of first and second grades, my expectations were a little high for my child. First grade is a very pivotal year for reading and writing. Megan exceeded all of my expectations and even went beyond that. Her classroom management was almost perfect. Every child knew where they were supposed to be and when they were supposed to be doing it. Her classroom was set up in a way that was easy for the children to understand her expectations of them. Everything was colorful, enticing, fun, and warm. The thing that my daughter and I loved the most about Megan was the love she had for her students. She made each one of them feel special and beautiful in their own way. Her interactions with the children go above and beyond anything I have ever experienced with any other teachers. Now I have been a teacher myself, and I have worked in a lot of classrooms with a lot of educators but Megan goes above and beyond every aspect of what we deem a great teacher to be. She is exceptional. Ansley still to this day adores Megan and declares her first grade year as being the best year ever. As a parent that is all you want for your child. Megan is an example that every educator should follow.” -Dru
“Here is an email I sent to administration in regards to my son Nathan's 1st grade experience with you as his teacher: ‘I wanted to take a moment to express my thoughts about a very special teacher of yours, Megan. Every day for the last 8 months my son has looked forward to going to school (he even asks to go on the weekends) and speaks of her with the utmost respect and adoration. I've spent a bit of time volunteering in her classroom and have never seen such a motivated, positive, organized teacher in my life. She is beyond prepared with her goals for her classroom and her ability to multi-task blows me away. I have never seen her lose her cool, even with 20 students needing her all at once. The continuous energy and love that she pours into her students allows them to thrive into confident, expressive, assertive, and even sympathetic children and I know that is no easy task. Just her presence lights up the faces in her classroom (as well as their parents and other staff members). I have a feeling that her students will remember her and still talk about her during their college years! It is evident that she has found her calling and how blessed are we as her students and parents to share this school year with. I have already asked her if she can graduate with her class into 2nd grade :) Thank you for hiring her to be a teacher and mentor at school. She is a huge part of what makes this school incredible to partner with.’ Thank you Megan.” -Deborah
“My wife and I have been talking lately and we would like to share with you how grateful we are for the education (and life skills and lessons) you have helped instill in our impressionable young ladies. You taught V in 1st grade (now a rising 4th grader!) and this past year taught A in 2nd grade. My wife and I were beyond thrilled when we found out you would be A’s teacher following V’s experience in 1st grade. You are the type of teacher a child is lucky to have and parents feel blessed to be assigned as their child’s mentor for 9 months. You are the type of teacher that a child will always remember. I remember the teachers that stand out as favorites, and I dare say you will ALWAYS be a favorite Teacher in V's and A's’s memories. You seem to blend “fun” and “education” perfectly, and make the lessons stick in young minds, and that’s not easy these days with countless distractions. V & A never wanted to let you down. They were proud to do good work for Megan. I also know that you helped A’s and her closest friends navigate the sometimes tricky social aspects of adolescence. I feel she learned some important lessons that she will carry to adulthood. A quick side note… A just spent a week at overnight camp. When we picked her up, her Cabin Leader/Camp Counselor pulled my wife and I aside and told us the sweetest story. A requested that she lead the devotional for the cabin for the night. She said A’s message was inclusion, and how lucky they were to be experiencing what they were experiencing. Also, she paired the 8 girls in her cabin together as “bunk buddies” and she paired them by girls that did not hang out with each other all the time. The counselors were blown away by the lessons of caring and compassion this 8 year old boldly expressed in words and action. This brings me to one last point my wife and I reflected on. Last year you tutored both girls after school once a week, and we saw incredible results. V's at the time was struggling with Math, and A (at start of tutoring) was timid in regards to class participation and reading aloud. A, this year, got straight A’s for the year and has incredible confidence (as you know) in class participation. V's was all A’s and a B+. I know you helped build this foundation last year with the afterschool tutoring. Future teachers for our girls have BIG shoes to fill. My wife and I feel very blessed that you were an important teacher to both A and V's during this time in their development. Whatever your secret sauce is, keep using it, and please know that you are making BIG beautiful impressions on these little souls.” -Chuck and Amy
“Megan is a phenomenally talented teacher and human. We are so grateful our son had the fortune of being in her first grade classroom, as she set a standard of fun and engaged learning that really shaped his attitude towards school at a young age. She made it super easy to be an involved parent in the classroom, which I appreciated, and her parent communication was top notch. We were so pleased with the school year that my son even invited her to his birthday party and we were thrilled when she actually took time out of her weekend to surprise him at his party! So above and beyond any experience we’ve had with other great teachers! I truly can not say even positive things about this awesome professional! Her teaching style and personality are a truly a gift to those she serves!” -Rachel
“Well I will say our oldest son still says his favorite all time teacher is Megan and never fails to tell his brother how lucky he is to get you twice! Both of my boys left your classroom with more confidence, more empathy for others, more searching for the good in people than before. The way they learned to “catch” pupils doing something good and eagerly let you know while they excitedly watch their friend be rewarded amazes me and makes me want to bottle that up and sprinkle it on everyone else in the world. Both of my boys recognized your kindness towards them and that you truly cared for them way beyond academics. They felt empowered to use their voices, try new things and feel more confident because you let them know they mattered and they were loved. Honestly I can’t believe how blessed we were to have you three total years. You truly have a God given gift that I see you using the rest of your life in some capacity.” -Amy
“My son loved coming to school because of you. He looked forward to each day and left home excited about what fun thing you would be doing. Your enthusiasm and love for teaching reached out into every aspect of your classroom. He thought your room was a magical place where stuffed animals talked and helped him learn. He always came home with stories of your animals and what they had done that day. I truly don’t even think he realized he was learning new stuff half the time, because you seamlessly made it seem like he was spending time with friends talking. And he did learn so much! He is such a good reader, he works hard at math and he always talked about how Megan would explain it. You were such a captivating person for him and your word was as good as gold in his eyes! On top of being an incredible teacher, you were so good at creating a caring community within your classroom. Your students would come in not knowing everyone and would very soon be best friends. You are so good at explaining why its important to care for others, and be there for others, and show empathy. He definitely knows how to fill someone’s bucket because of your example. You always made it so clear how important it was to be kind and show grace and patience for others. I am so thankful that we got to experience being part of your classroom, and I know you are a teacher our son will never forget.” -Kara
“Megan was my daughter's first grade teacher at gcs. She is such a lovely person, very energetic and creative, and a wonderful teacher. My daughter is entering 9th grade this year, and Megan still remains one of her all time favorite teachers. I give her my highest recommendation, and I guarantee your child will adore her.” -Karen
“The BEST teacher and person to have around your children. Highly recommend her!” -Tory
“My son had the best experience in your classroom… You inspired him to push himself to do more, when he needed it. You encouraged him regularly. We always felt like you saw his strengths, and that was such a gift to us all. He grew in many ways that year. Your classroom atmosphere was an absolute delight, and I’ll never forget it. We have said many times, we could not imagine a better teacher than you.” -Angela
“Megan is the Mary Poppins of teaching! My daughter had a very rough transition to her new school this year, as she compared everything to her experience with Megan. I tried to explain that she is just an amazing teacher and that not everyone is the same. She eventually came around and settled in, but STILL speaks of Megan and her class. We are now finished with 2nd grade, but she still brings in her 1st grade class. Not her friends, but you. Your enthusiasm is infectious, you obviously love the kids, and you are a great communicator.” -Melody
“We have been so blessed to have you as our daughter’s teacher. She has always loved school but during Kindergarten and 1st grade in public school she had started to dislike school by the end of the school year. She was getting bored and tired of doing work sheets constantly at her previous school. During her year with you, she never got bored and was always so excited to go to school. She was so sad that the summer break started because she missed school! We are truly thankful that you made school work fun and created such a positive environment for her. You really set the bar high for our expectations at gcs!” -Carol
“Patient, kind, attentive, and loving are all words that describe Megan. She was always just a phone call or email away if we needed to reach her. Our daughter Olivia loved being in her class. She took the time to learn each child’s gifts and she allowed them to use them. Olivia loves to sew so she always let her repair all the torn stuffed animals and that made her so happy and feel so special. She was hands down one of the best teachers/partners. She would let us know if there were any subjects/tasks Olivia had challenges with and she worked with us to help her work in those areas all why continuously encouraging her. She will truly be missed. It is our prayer that she and her gifts bless others as she has me and my family.” -Pamela
“Megan, I am writing to thank you for being such a huge positive influence in my child’s life. Most people have a teacher in their academic career that really touches them and impacts their life, how they learn, how they see the world, how they handle relationships…. you are that amazing teacher for my child. You are the teacher that all other teacher’s will be measured by. From a parent’s perspective, I will remain eternally grateful for the love of learning you instilled in my daughter. Everything in your class had an element of fun which helps material come to life and make sense. Learning the phases of the moon really stand out when your homework is to learn them by shaping OREO cookies. You are a bucket filler in the truest sense of the word.” -Lori
